Coaches Code of Conduct
North Penn Athletic Association (NPAA)
Home of the North Penn Squires
Why the Coaches Code of Conduct Matters
Coaches play a critical role in creating a safe, respectful, and positive environment for youth athletes. The NPAA is committed to fostering good sportsmanship, skill development, and personal growth. This Code of Conduct ensures that all coaches model respect, integrity, and professionalism on and off the field, promoting the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of athletes, volunteers, and other coaches.
All coaches and assistant coaches must read, understand, and agree to abide by this Code of Conduct. Participation in NPAA programs is contingent upon agreement with these guidelines. Any violation may result in review and disciplinary action by the NPAA Executive Board.
Coaches Responsibilities
Role Modeling & Sportsmanship
1. Set a positive example of sportsmanship, enthusiasm, and respect for all participants, coaches, officials, and spectators.
2. Demonstrate that winning is the result of teamwork, effort, and good sportsmanship, not individual performance alone.
3.mEmphasize that athletes should strive to be both good students and good athletes.
4. Refrain from criticizing participants, opposing teams, officials, or fans in public; constructive feedback should be private or in a way that benefits all team members.
5. Avoid actions that deliberately incite unsportsmanlike conduct.
6. Accept the decisions of game officials as fair and final.
7. Refrain from using abusive, profane, or discriminatory language.
Athlete Safety & Development
8. Prioritize athlete safety: remove any participant from practice or competition if there is any concern about their health or well-being.
9. Encourage all athletes to learn, grow, and enjoy the game while promoting a positive team environment.
10. Treat all participants fairly and equally, without favoritism.
11. Resolve disagreements with other coaches privately, away from players and parents.
Professional Conduct
12. Attend required coaches’ clinics and meetings.
13. Display a high standard of behavior on and off the field.
14. Do not physically strike any athlete, coach, official, or spectator.
15. Respect the rights, dignity, and worth of everyone involved in NPAA programs.
16. Maintain approachability for parents, addressing concerns before or after practices or games, not during events.
17. Avoid smoking or using tobacco products on practice or game fields.
18. Refer unresolved parent or participant issues to the NPAA Executive Board.
